What Is Dental Plaque?
Dental plaque is a condition in which bacteria
irreversibly attach to the glycoprotein film
formed by saliva on the tooth surface. As the stage preceding tartar,
it is a major cause of periodontal disease. -
What Is Tartar (Calculus)?
Tartar is a hard, solid mass formed when
minerals deposit onto the bacterial film
on the tooth surface and become calcified.

Treatment Methods for Gum Disease
Periodontal disease treatment is divided into non-surgical periodontal treatment (scaling, root planing) and surgical periodontal treatment (subgingival curettage, flap surgery, bone grafting), and proceeds in stages. What matters most is not missing the right time for treatment.

-
Tartar Removal (Scaling)
This treatment removes plaque, tartar, and other deposits attached to the tooth surface to treat and prevent gum inflammation. Even people with good oral health should receive scaling once every six months to a year.

-
Root Planing / Periodontal Curettage
If tartar has progressed deep inside the gums, treatment is needed to scrape away the tartar and gum inflammation lodged beneath the gum line.

-
Periodontal Surgery (Gum Surgery)
When teeth are loose or there is pus in the gums, treatment is performed after anesthesia by inserting instruments deep into the gums, and in some cases the gums are incised to carry out the procedure.
