What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the third molars located at the very back of the mouth. Most people have four wisdom teeth in total, two in the upper jaw and two in the lower jaw. However, from an evolutionary standpoint, the jawbone has become smaller, and with advances in dental prosthetics the rate of molar loss has decreased. As a result, there are cases in which teeth that should erupt cannot do so due to a lack of space and become impacted within the jawbone, as well as cases in which the wisdom teeth do not develop at all.
